How an AI copy differs from a deepfake

Technically, both a copy and a deepfake use AI. But in essence they are opposites - and the difference lies in ethics.

Purpose

A deepfake is usually made to deceive. An AI memory copy is made to gently preserve and to help those who are close, honestly labeling itself as a simulation.

Consent

Deepfakes are often made without the person's knowledge. A copy in Pomni is impossible without consent and rights - this is built into the product.

Transparency

A deepfake disguises itself as reality. A copy, on the contrary, is always labeled and never passes itself off as living. This is a fundamental difference.

Control

A deepfake lives beyond the power of the person depicted and their loved ones. A memory copy can be stopped or deleted by the family at any time. Power over the likeness stays with those to whom it is dear.

  • Purpose: to preserve and help, not to deceive.
  • Only with consent and rights.
  • Always labeled, never disguised.
  • Under the family's control.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't it technically the same technology?
The tools are similar, but the ethics are opposite: consent, transparency, purpose, and control make a copy fundamentally different.
Could a copy become a deepfake?
No - it is permanently labeled as a simulation and is not meant to be passed off as a real person.
