Family Tree Privacy: Public or Private

A family tree is personal, and you decide who sees it. In Pomni the access is set up just as flexibly as it is for a memory page.

A public tree

An open tree can be viewed by anyone who has the link. This is handy when you want to share the genealogy widely, for example to find distant relatives or to show the history of the lineage.

Password-protected

If the tree is meant only for your own people, lock it with a password. Only those you give the code to will open the genealogy, everyone else will see only the password prompt.

Private

A fully private tree is visible to you alone. This suits you while you are still gathering data and not ready to share, or for a strictly personal memory.

The privacy of individual people

The tree respects the settings of each memory page: a private relative in a shared tree appears only as a card with a name and years, without any personal content. The structure is visible, the personal is not.

  • Public, by link for everyone.
  • Password-protected, only for your own people.
  • Private, only for you.
  • The personal content of individuals is protected.

Frequently asked questions

How do I lock the tree with a password?
The tree inherits the privacy of the memory page it opens from: set a password on that page, and the tree will open only with it.
Will outsiders see relatives' personal stories?
No. Private pages appear in the tree only as a card with a name and years.
